Outdoors only, well away from the buildingNever inside, never in a garage with the door open, never on a balcony or under a window. Carbon monoxide has no smell and gives no warning.
Never connect a generator into a socketBack-feeding a house through a socket energises the street wiring and can kill line workers. Connection is through proper switching, installed by an electrician.
Refuel only with the engine off and coolPetrol on a hot exhaust ignites. Every year somebody refuels a running generator and loses a building.
Store fuel properly, not on the landingApproved containers, ventilated space, away from living areas, ignition sources and escape routes.
Earthing and protection matterHave the installation done and checked by a qualified electrician. A generator wired by enthusiasm is a hazard with a pull cord.
Fit a carbon monoxide alarmCheap, and the only warning you will get. Worth having in any home using combustion for heat or power.

What we do

Selection based on your measured loads, installation with proper switching by qualified electricians, and servicing afterwards — because the generator that fails is almost always the one nobody started since last winter.

Run it monthly, under load. Fuel goes stale, batteries self-discharge and oil ages. A short monthly test tells you the truth while the shops are still open, instead of at two in the morning in February.

i.Can I power the whole house?

Usually you can, and usually you should not. Powering essentials costs a fraction of powering everything, in equipment and in fuel. Decide what genuinely must run.

ii.Will an inverter run my boiler?

Often yes, since boilers and pumps draw little. Check the boiler's requirements, including whether it needs a clean sine wave — some electronics object to cheap inverters.

iii.Petrol or diesel?

Depends on hours of use, storage and budget. For occasional household use petrol is usually simpler; for long daily runs diesel often works out better. We will say which fits your case, including when the cheaper one does.

iv.Do I need an electrician?

For any permanent connection to the house wiring, yes. This is the part where doing it yourself endangers other people, not just you.
